Craft Workshops

Queen B Quilting & Craft offers a wide variety of workshops that bring the equipment and come to you.
These are offered in two formats:

Honey Pots

Longer workshops sometimes spread over a number of days for those who wish to approach larger projects or already have the skills and would like to take them further.

Little Drops of Honey

Short 3 hour workshops where you can have just a little taste of a particular craft. We take all the preparation and some of the less obvious costs out of the project, leaving you with the opportunity to learn something new and be able to say "I made it myself".

Little Drops of Honey

are aimed at teaching you new skills while completing a small project, with an opportunity to take your skills further and create larger projects (examples of the larger projects are pictured on the right hand side of each workshop description). We come to your home and show you and a group of friends how to do the craft of your choice. We supply all the materials, bring our tools for you to use during the craft workshop, you provide the enthusiasm and space for you and your friends to have a go. Where machine sewing is required, you bring your own sewing machine.
Cost is tuition plus price of kit.

Tuition for 3 hours of instruction in Little Drops of Honey is charged at the following rates:

  • 4 to 6 people: $18 per person plus the price of your kit
  • 2 or 3 people: $24 per person plus the price of your kit
One on one private tuition is also available, $25 for the first hour and $20 per hour after that, plus the price of your kit.
Groups of six (including the host) entitle the host to free tuition for the workshop.
 

Dimensional Appliqué

Kit price $20.
You will make a little wool pram blanket with sculpted appliqué teddy bear and printed cotton borders and backing.
Jungle Blanket

Smocking

Kit price $7.
Your pre-pleated fabric will quickly become a magnificent Christmas bauble with a few basic stitches. We also offer a pleating service.
Smocked Bonnet & Shoes

Folded Ribbon Roses

Kit price $7.
You will make three beautifully scented rose sachets, each with a folded silk ribbon rose. Lovely as gifts.

Patchwork & Quilting

Rotary Cutting & Machine Piecing*

Kit price $17.
Master safe use of your rotary cutter and using quick piecing methods make a table runner.

Easy Appliqué

Easy Appliqué*

Kit price $14.
The quickest easiest patchwork, using the iron and craft glue! You will make a Christmas Tree wall hanging, complete with all the trimmings.

Free Motion Machine Quilting*

Kit price $10.
Make up small quilt sandwiches and learn the basics of machine quilting, add binding to your practice pieces and make two pot holders.

Embroidery

Wool

Kit price $7.
Make a little wool teddy with flowers on her belly. Perfect as a baby gift or for anyone you love to hug.

Silk Ribbon

Kit price $8.
Embroider a planter full of spring bulbs, and mount into a greeting card. You could frame the card if you wish.

Bullions

Kit price $10.
Master this versatile little knot (also known as grub knots) in a bumble bee and roses, on 2 Bonds baby singlets.

Christmas Crafts

Christmas T-shirt

Kit price $5.
You supply the right sized T-shirt and create a real original. You can always make it for a small person.

Folded Ribbon Baubles

Folded Ribbon Baubles

Kit price $9.
Using variegated ribbon you will make a beautiful Christmas bauble, lovely to add to your tree or give away.

Rotary Cutting & Machine Piecing, Easy Appliqué and Smocking are all listed in the sections above - each of these workshops also produce a Christmas project.

Honey Pots

Longer workshops are for those who wish to approach larger projects or already have basic sewing skills and would like to take them further.
These workshops are sometimes spread over a number of days.
Some Honey Pots have kits available, you may compile your own kit from a requirements list and in some instances there is no kit.

Tuition for Honey Pots varies for each workshop.

One on one private tuition is also available, $25 for the first hour and $20 per hour after that, plus the price of your kit.
Groups of six entitle the host to free tuition for the workshop.

Irish Chain Quilt Top*

Duration: 2 half days
Cost: $80
Give your rotary cutting skills a workout and learn the quick piecing methods to make this lovely traditional quilt in a bassinet or cot/lap size.
Fabric requirements approx 2.3m or 2.75m respectively.

Easy Half Square Triangles Quilt Top*

Duration: 2 half days
Cost: $80
No more cutting triangles and working with bias edges, cut squares and make pairs of triangles. This lap/cot size quilt top comes together very quickly using 8 fat quarters (50 x 56cm) and 70cm of fabric (2.7m total).

Needlwork Tool Wrap*

Duration: 2 half days
Cost: $80
A great beginner project to help you keep your tools together and learn the difference between needles and their uses while learning a number of techniques.
Kit available $30.
Additional requirements list provided on booking.

Embroidery sampler

Duration: 4 hours
Cost: $40
This lovely sampler includes cross stitch, chain stitch, bullion and ribbon embroidery worked on backing of your choice.
$10 kit of needles, ribbons and threads available.
